"Villaggio Day Spa Wins International Interior Design Award"

International Interior Design Association honors local day spa and salon for its sophisticated and soothing environment

Designplan Inc. was awarded the Interior Design Excellence Award for Best Hospitality design by the Indiana chapter of the International Interior Design Association for Villaggio Day Spa in Fishers, IN. This statewide design competition awards new construction and/or renovations completed by an Indiana-based Interior Design or Architecture firm between January 1, 2004 and July 1, 2006.

According to the Indiana Chapter of the IIDA, the Interior Design Excellence Award for Best Hospitality design indicates a significant achievement given so many qualified contenders. Designplan’s successful integration of client needs with design concept and execution provided a sophisticated and soothing environment that appeals to a wide range of clients.

Villaggio Day Spa opened its award-winning north side location in September 2005. The majority of the spa was designed to calm and relax with a simple, clean approach to color, lighting and architectural elements. In the entry, the water wall sets the tone for a serene, tranquil experience. The corridors and treatment rooms feel warm and inviting with their rich sepia and espresso tones and simple modern wall sconces. The men’s and women’s changing and relaxation rooms provide an element of surprise through bursts of vibrant color upon entry. The women’s area is inviting with invigorating corals and reds with silks and velvets to give luxurious texture, and the men’s area has cool, watery blue and aqua tones with oversize leather chairs to watch their flat screen television while waiting for their treatment. The salon feels more modern than the rest of the gender neutral spaces with espresso colored stained concrete and large drum pendant lights in a bright canary silk. Each area of the spa provides a unique design experience but the space is unified though the common basis of the espresso color and warm wood details. 
To appeal to both men and women in the entry, Castings Artistic Finishings hand painted a traditional, feminine motif using a masculine color palette. The art was based on a vintage lace pattern and is reminiscent of the spa logo; it creates a striking first impression. This entry mural welcomes the guests and sets the mood for their spa visit.

Designplan’s scope of work included: space planning, interior design, and construction documents for the Villaggio project. “Because of the build out budget challenges specific to a spa, we needed to balance upscale finishes with less expensive products without compromising the integrity of the design, stated Natalie Wehr, Senior Account Manager at Designplan.” The award winning project was completed on time and within budget.
